I counsel and defend clients in complex, high-stakes business litigation and government investigations, with an emphasis on accounting and financial matters. I have proudly practiced at my law firm for over 30 years and serve as Deputy Practice Group Leader of Eversheds Sutherland’s US Litigation Group and co-leader of our US and global Professional Liability practices. I have tried many cases to verdict, including jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations - an increasing rarity in business litigation. Many of my cases involve multiple parallel lawsuits and regulatory investigations. I help my clients navigate their challenges coherently and consistently, guiding them to an efficient resolution when appropriate, and taking cases to trial when necessary. I have represented accounting and financial services firms, corporations, and their professionals in a wide range of high-stakes matters across the country, including accountant, auditor and actuarial liability cases. My experience also includes insurance litigation; securities fraud actions; tax litigation; business and shareholder disputes; actions under the False Claims Act; state and federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act cases; and receiver, liquidator and bankruptcy trustee actions. I have defended clients in investigations by federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice, as well as investigations and hearings by state prosecutors and licensing boards, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).Drawing from my experience in the litigation and enforcement arenas, I publish and speak at professional conferences on issues relating to complex business litigation and professional liability. I co-chaired the ABA Professional Liability Litigation Committee for 2017-2020 and co-authored the Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina chapters of a forthcoming 50-state treatise on accountants’ liability law. I am active in my community, serving on the Tocqueville Society Cabinet of United Way of Greater Atlanta and as the President of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Appellate Practice & Educational Resource Center, which provides pro bono capital habeas assistance of last resort to inmates on Georgia’s death row.
