A musician and composer named Graham Reynolds once said, “Create profound spaces that will be remembered for their impact on people.” It’s something that has clearly captured the benchmark for anything we design. Ultimately, what we as designers think is beautiful has no importance if it doesn’t reflect the people who inhabit that space. The most profound spaces are those that bring joy to the people who live there, or visit, and can only be accomplished if we take the time to truly know someone. Great design begins with our ears first. Then observation and relationship begin to paint a picture in our own minds that captures something of who that person is. This means face to face time and it means slowing down enough to deeply understand.I believe in jumping in early with people. So many of our clients have recommended that we be engaged as soon as the architect starts drawing. After so many years in this business, we know where minor modifications can have a profound effect on the function and beauty of a space. Then we design, methodically and in an organized process that simplifies everything for the clients we serve. We do the research, help to make big decisions and recommend solutions that will remain beautiful for the longest amount of time. We run our own army of vendors and installers, people we know and trust as craftspeople and artisans. They know what we’re about, and we have high regard for each other. Everyone in our office shares our simple, yet meaningful set of values. Taking time to listen is important, we design spaces that reflect who you are. We do this by valuing Closeness, which means building a relationship on listening, facetime and empathy. We value an atmosphere of Nurturing, tending to the important things on behalf of those we serve. And we value Competent Creativity, which means keeping elevated taste and style on the shoulders of organization and expertise.
