Long Term Substitute Teacher Fifth Grade
Taught a 5th grade class: Writer's Workshop, Everyday Math, Stemscopes and Social Studies ( to 2 classes). I also taught Spelling and Scholastic News and conducted various activities to establish a healthy and safe class climate. Responsible for Spring Progress Reports and Conferences with the teacher for whom I covered until she was able to gradually return. Continued to partake in Teacher's College on-site professional development lead by Kellie Smith for writing units so that I could pilot a small group Writer's Workshop across the grade level to target struggling writers.
Long Term Substitute Teacher Third Grade
I started the year and taught the entire class across all subjects through mid-December: Readers and Writer's Workshop, Everyday Math, Stemscopes Science, Words Their Way and a variety of community building curriculums. I was responsible for Open House, Writing Celebrations and Fall Parent Teacher Conferences. I gleaned several tools and approaches from two very strong professional development opportunities: First, I learned about the work by Katie Muhtaris and Kristin Ziemke in Amplify. This helped me apply our one to one iPad program across subjects to deepen student access to information and tools and strengthen their ability to share what they learned with others. Second, I partook in 'The Innovators Mindset' joint Professional Development Day with Yarmouth. This work was facilitated by George Couros.
