As a nurse entering my fourth year at the bedside, I continue to seek opportunities to learn more about different areas of nursing, and strengthen my current knowledge base. My clinical experience has provided me with the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, which are much needed for excellent patient care. Throughout nursing school, I developed effective communication skills, exceptional time management as well as multitasking capabilities, which have helped me to be successful in my nursing career thus far. As a critical care nurse, I gained experience in patient education, medication titration, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and wound care. I have further expanded my nursing scope by transferring into a Labor and Delivery position at HCA Healthcare Kingwood. In this new specialty I have been able to acquire new and unique skills such as applying electronic fetal monitors to interpret fetal heart tones and contractions, circulating in the OR, triaging patients who come through the obstetric emergency room, and coaching patients and birthing partners in deliveries, to name a few. I strive to be a good team member to my unit and bring a positive attitude every day. I work hard to continue educating myself about the constant changing healthcare world. These skills, along with my empathy, adaptability, and determination, are what I hope will help me cultivate a long and rewarding nursing career.
