Currently, I am leading an OECD WPMN Project for development of a Test Guideline for the determination of the dustiness of manufactured nanomaterials and an associated Guidance Document, specifying how to apply the data generated for exposure categorization and quantitative exposure modelling. In addition, I have been responsible for two national Project: 1) aiming to map occupational exposure of asbestos, respirable quartz and total suspended particles within the construction industry and 2) aiming to test and evaluate whether industries can use low-cost particle sensors as a tool to identify, measure and intervene in the working environment. I am also contributing to a Horizon Europe Project (Aerosolfd), being responsible for ambient and occupational exposure measurements in demo sites across Europe in order to evaluate the effectiveness of retrofit solutions to reduce tailpipe and brake emissions and pollution in (semi-) closed environments.

Since August 2016, my main activities and responsibilities were the following: - Work on exposure characterization and model testing. - Involvement in the development of the official EN17199-4 standard of the small rotating drum method for dustiness testing of materials that may release nano-objects and their agglomerates and aggregates (CEN/TC 137/WG3). - Leading an OECD WPMN Project about the global readiness of models to assess occupational exposure of manufactured nanomaterials.-Leading an OECD WPMN Project (ENV-CHEM-NANO(2018)4-ADD3) for development of a Test Guideline for the determination of the dustiness of manufactured nanomaterials and an associated Guidance Document, specifying how to apply the data generated for exposure categorization and quantitative exposure modelling - Development of data libraries related to 1) dustiness of materials; ii) release and exposure database and iii) Historical asbestos exposure -Training of safety personnel about nanoparticles in general and how to make a risk assessment and control bandings user testing. - Partner in National, and European Projects (Horizon Europe and H2020) such as caLIBRAte, Gov4Nano, NanoHarmony, GRACIOUS, NanoSolveIT, HARMLESS and AeroSolfd.

PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at Barcelona University, Spain Dissertation title: “Characterization and sources of nanoparticles, with a focus on occupational exposure” in the framework of the FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) "Human Exposure to Aerosol Contaminants in Modern Microenvironments" (HEXACOMM; PITN-GA-2012-315760)

The main goal of this research was to monitor and characterize the worker exposure to nanoparticlesin several industrial facilities. Examples of nanomaterials targeted were carbon nanotubes (CNTs) andunintentional nanoparticle releases from ceramic processes.This grant allowed me to work in collaboration with researchers within and outside of the consortiumthat undertake relevant work on the same research field, and this has resulted in new contributionsand new research paths.

The work developed under the Project Mini and Micro T-jets reactors with high throughput ((PTDC/EQU-EQU/098617/2008) was mainly related to the synthesis and characterization of ZnO nanoparticles in mini and micro T-jets reactores.
