Through the 10-week, rotational, summer associate program I interned with the Immigration, Personal Injury, and Criminal Law departments at The Gonzalez Group. I was further allowed to shadow briefly the Family and Estate and Probate Planning departments. The summer was also enhanced with community service, social, and networking engagements allowing me to be involved with the legal community and the public that we serve. I predominantly participated in criminal defense trials with the Criminal Department, from preparation and voi dire to closing arguments, sentencing, and jury debriefing. I worked on the transferral and research to the appellate attorney. I shadowed the attorneys in several counties across Southeastern Texas. I mainly focused on several trial preparation processes with the Personal Injury Department. I also drafted a significant amount of discovery documents and assisted with client consultations and contracting for hire. I worked with many providers and their offices to solidify their testimony during the pending trial. I shadowed four depositions for varying cases. With the Immigration Department, I shadowed in court appearances (virtual and in-person) and drafted prosecutorial discretion agreements in conjunction with the DHS Assistant Chief Counsels on over 20 cases. I drafted motions and prepared for bond and master hearings. I also compiled Asylum trial briefs, motions under the Cuban Adjustment Act, and arranged trial briefs for Special Immigrant Juvenile cases including Suits Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship. In each department, I conducted plenty of research beneficial to cases within the respective areas of the law. I attended workshops on topics such as visas, asylum and consular processing, voi dire, and trial demonstratives. I was also able to use my previous experience to host workshops for the firm on stress, mental health, work-life balance, and mindfulness in the legal profession.

As a 1L, I had the opportunity to join a cohort of women of color who were also in their first year of law school at institutions across the country. We were afforded sessions that we attended on the weekends for each of the courses we were enrolled in for our respective programs. With the aim of creating an academic and legal professional foundation for its scholars, the Diversity Attorney Pipeline Program is geared to prepare and develop the forthcoming generation of diverse attorneys well before we have the opportunity to practice. A true highlight of the program is the mentorship, particularly the law student mentor pairing, helping to ease the transition of the grueling and hectic first year offering coaching, tutoring, resources, inspiration and social-emotional support.

Serving schools of the Harper Woods School District elementary through high school, meeting students/scholars where they are, and subsequently measuring their academic advancement, attendance improvement, and behavioral progress. Assisting administration and teachers in developing positive behavioral and social skills and traits in the youth. Curating the youth's minds in preparation for their future academic careers and supporting their overall emotional and mental health post-virtual schooling. Designed and provided activities, lessons, and programs that enrich the schools and learning experience for the scholars and support systems we serve. Incorporating a trauma-informed perspective into education at each level of the schools' communities; families, teachers, administration, and our youth.

Assisted in lesson facilitation and Mentoring 50+ youth virtually. Emailed, Called, and texted youth to complete assignments if they were employed and missed a meeting. Collaborated with other Coaches for daily inspiration, ice-breakers, and stimulating topics to further youth engagement with the daily lessons. Led discussion on college and higher education and resources available to Detroit high school scholars prior to applying. Reviewed and aided youth in resume creation and maintenance. Participated in Connect Detroit meetings and training on a weekly basis. Reviewed & processed youth incentives for submission and monitored benchmarks weekly. Updated and monitored the internal Payroll Stipend System for youth. Assisted in the distribution of Youth Payment Cards. Reviewed status with the Director of Operations Weekly. Organized and orchestrated the Career and Education Fairs for 250+ youth ages 14-24 to enhance their future opportunities.

Go Bulldogs, Go Trailblazers! Serving as the high school representative Socio-Emotional Learning Coordinator (SEL) for the Durfee-Central Team. Selected member of the Detroit Recruitment And Development (RAD) Squad, serving as an ambassador preparing for the next Corps in conjunction with the Recruitment team and receiving specialized leadership and professional training throughout the second half of the service year. Chosen to be the Highlighted Corps Member Speaker at the Red Jacket Gala during CY Detroit Graduation Week.

Served as the Summer Research Intern for the Office of Student Success performing multiple tasks in a transitional period of the Office's primary programs. Conducted interviews with university representatives and DENEB STARS Scholars as part of a larger financial insecurity research project, particularly focusing on housing and food insecurities. Researched and reported on a project concerning WashU's comparison to other Top 20 institutions' service to Low-income and First-generation students. Other research conducted was aimed at improvement of the DENEB STARS programming including a "de-classified guide of survival" for incoming students, finding benefits and disadvantages to familial-style cohorts, and ways to access and increase resources for students studying humanities and social sciences.

Placement through the Grow Detroit Youth Talent program

Supervised by Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Ron Robinson. Generated drafts for motions, memorandums, and retort correspondence to citizens on behalf of the AAG. Amassed necessary documents and assessed previous cases for proof of precedence. Presented reports on findings from research using Westlaw and CaseLaw. Attended court hearings in federal, municipal, and appellate courts. Worked on several components of the initial stages of SB90. Campaigned in metro Detroit for Ron D. Robinson for Wayne County Circuit Judge.
