Andre Hardy is an award winning activist, organizer, and educator with 4+ years of community engagement experience who is passionate about LGBTQIA+ advocacy, the social determinants of health for marginalized people, and the intersection of the Black and queer identities. He is known for fostering inclusive environments, promoting cultural competence, and motivating community members to take action in support of civil liberties.Andre earned his Bachelor’s degree in criminology, sociology, and french from Butler University. During his time there, he was involved in a multitude of student organizations serving as a student leader throughout all four years of his education. During his two year tenure as President of Butler University’s LGBTQIA+ Alliance, Andre cultivated a novel community engagement framework that increased membership engagement by 400%. This novel approach included new opportunities for civic engagement, foundation of the Gender Affirmation Closet, outreach to communities of color, reinstatement of Second Chance Prom, and the establishment of Lavender Graduation. These efforts earned him the W.E.B Du Bois Award from the Butler University Department of Sociology and Criminology and the Diversity Leader of the Week Award by the Efroymson Diversity Center.Andre also had the opportunity to intern with the Indiana Supreme Court in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion where he learned state governmental practices and policies and collaborated with the Deputy Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to present diversity, equity, and inclusion training to local judges and magistrates.He currently serves as a fellow in the Positive Youth Action Program at the Damien Center. He also volunteers as a member of the Trevor Project’s Youth Advisory Council for LGBTQ+ Research and as a Board Member-At-Large for CILYAG. He is open to employment opportunities in the non profit sector that serve LGBTQIA+ people.
