André has been appointed as the Chief Executive of African Rainbow Mineral's Ferrous Division in July 2012, a position that he currently holds. In this position he has overall executive responsibility for the Division's Iron Ore and Manganese mines in the Northern Cape as well as a Ferro Manganese smelter in Kwa-Zulu Natal and serves on the boards of Sakura Ferroalloys in Malaysia and is a director on the Assmang board.In 2015 he was appointed as the Chairman of the Assmang Exco and in 2017 he took over as the Chairman of the Sakura Board.Prior to that he was the Executive Operations for the same division from 2009 to 2012. From 2006 to 2008 he was the CEO at Hernic Ferrochrome.André was the General Manager at Anglo's Base Metals' Black Mountain mine for the five year period from 2001 to 2007.André has vast experience in operational mining and held senior and executive operational positions within Anglo American’s gold and base metals divisions and spent 5 years in Anglo's new mining business division with responsibilities of evaluating and designing mining projects in South Africa, Tanzania, South America and Canada. In total he accumulated more than 30 years of experience within the mining industry of which almost all was in operational and line management. André graduated at the University of Pretoria in 1981 with a BSc in Mining Engineering and later obtained a MBA cum laude at the University of Stellenbosch.
