Attitude Control System Lead
CurrentI am part of Project Rapid, the club's flagship engineering project. We are building a 3U CubeSat as a testbed for an experimental ion thruster built by the UCLA Plasma and Space Propulsion Laboratory. I am currently in charge of the satellite's attitude control system. I am developing a detailed physics simulation of the dynamics of our spacecraft in Matlab, and I am using this simulation to test, tune, and refine control algorithms. I am also responsible designing in Altium the satellite's backup battery protection system. We project our satellite will launch by the end of 2025.
Software And Systems Engineering Intern
At Moog, I helped developed a next generation 4-axis helicopter autopilot system. I developed software tools to perform unit and integration testing between flight software and digital models. I wrote a C-code parser to gather data on legacy code for generation of unit tests, and I integrated my new tooling with the existing unit testing framework in Matlab. Armed with the upgraded unit tests, I used their results to debug the team's Simulink models of the flight software. I also had the opportunity to learn and explore time series analysis and signal processing. In this capacity, I wrote custom spectral analysis software to measure aircraft frequency response.
Internal Structures Lead
At Rocket Project, I spent two quarters leading a team of mechanical engineers in designing the internal load bearing structures of Prometheus, a hybrid propulsion rocket. I made use of SolidWorks to design aluminum bulkheads, Ansys to perform finite element analysis and refine my designs, and HSMWorks to generate G-code for Haas Mini Mills. I also learned how to operate the machines themselves, and I machined my own designs. With the Prometheus team, I competed in the Spaceport America Cup, and we launched our rocket at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry range in the Mojave.
Programming Lead
I was a programmer at FTC 8404 Quixilver Robotics until 2021, and I took charge as software lead in my senior year of high school. On this team, I developed novel position estimation algorithms from odometry, computer vision, and ultrasonic distance sensors. I also spearheaded the team's efforts on developing a motion control with feedforward and feedback control. The technologies I used for these projects include Java on Android, Python, and OpenCV.
Software Engineer Intern
As an intern at TickUp's Systematic Trading Team, I was responsible for writing in C++ a microbenchmark to measure CPU interprocess communication latency, with a precision of single digit nanoseconds, and throughput. I then used the knowledge I gained in researching and building the microbenchmark to develop several ultra fast FIFO algorithms for interprocess communication, each to meet a different need of the Systematic Trading team. In high frequency trading, speed is everything, so I had to fight tooth and nail to shave nanoseconds off message passing latencies. My fastest FIFOs achieved first word latencies on the order of 40 nanoseconds.
