Served as legal counsel for state-wide SBA district office. Practice included loan eligibility and closing support, commercial lending litigation (including foreclosures, collections, and bankruptcy), legal support for 504 Cadre review team and Office of Credit and Risk Management audits, 8(a) contracting support, employment law, government ethics and outreach, and fraud detection. Served as Chair of the Office of General Counsel’s Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey subcommittee and as a member of the national Pro Bono Committee.

Represented over 52,000 citizens as one of six elected Village Trustees in the Village of Oak Park, a home rule authority municipality operating under a Village Manager form of government. Set local policy pertaining to municipal operations, including: economic development, streets and sanitation, parking and infrastructure, public safety, community relations, and public health. Served on several Board committees, including: Finance, Reinventing Government, Intergovernmental (“I-Gov”), and the Fair Housing Task Force. Shared responsibility for ratifying a multi-million dollar annual budget.

The Law Project, a project of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, is a transactional, pro bono legal service provider promoting regional equity and community development throughout metropolitan Chicago. TLP serves community-based organizations, low-income entrepreneurs, and first-time home buyers. As the Outreach Coordinator, I worked to grow both client and pro bono attorney volunteer bases through community involvement, social media, written communications--including newsletters and regular email blasts, event planning, and publicity. As the Community Benefits Agreements Staff Attorney (effective 9.1.2014), I counseled coalitions of community organizations in their efforts to organize, negotiate, execute, and enforce community benefits agreements with real estate developers in predominantly low-income communities in the greater Chicago region.

Owned and operated general civil law practice, focusing on Social Security Disability Law, small estates, elder law, consumer law, and small business / nonprofit advising.Co-counseled significant Illinois Appellate Court divorce and guardianship case, including successfully arguing the case at the Appellate level.

Represented low-income individuals in subsidized housing eviction, Social Security Disability, public benefits, consumer law, and residential foreclosure cases. Represented individuals with HIV/AIDS in a variety of legal matters through the Ryan White Care Act grant.

Protected the the legal rights of subsidized housing tenants through direct representation in state court and administrative proceedings, including post-foreclosure evictions. Handled individual caseload of approximately 50-60 cases. Worked in conjunction with supervisory staff to promote policies within the Chicago Housing Authority to protect subsidized housing tenants, including those at risk of losing their housing due to the foreclosure crisis and the CHA Plan for Transformation.Empowered low-income community members through community legal education initiatives related to landlord-tenant rights, subsidized housing, and post-foreclosure tenants' rights.
