• Exhibit and Mobile App Development: Developed exhibit plan for creating 29 new wayside exhibits on natural and human history topics, trailhead orientation maps, and interpretive signage for two nature trails. Determined locations, researched content, wrote all text, and prepared design mock-ups. Searched for historic photos and graphics. Created complex content for park’s new mobile app. Updated park website pages and park unigrid brochure text.

• Seasonal Supervisor: Supervised and mentored eight seasonal advanced interpretive staff during the 2021 season. Provided professional guidance to staff to create programs, outlines, and resource materials. Created new performance standards and wrote end-of-season staff assessments. Observed and evaluated all interpretive programs. Handled most seasonal HR management duties for staff, such as on and off-boarding procedures, leave requests, and payroll certification. • Interpretive Planning: Worked with four-person supervision team to design entire summer program content, conduct all required management tasks for the 2021 season, and schedule nearly 30 staff and volunteers. Created and delivered interpretive training sessions and activities, and organized other sessions led by experts. Worked closely with local businesses to provide interpreters for paid boat and bike tours.

• Invasive Species Interpreter: Developed the park’s first major invasive species programming project, including all content, goals, protocols, printed materials and displays, and many forms of community outreach with increasing responsibility each year. Made 14,000+ visitor contacts during appointments and expanded partner relationships. Developed public and school field trip weed-pull events. Created numerous site bulletins, rack cards, pull-up screens, kiosk posters, and other graphic media. Updated park’s nearly 100-page official website and created nine new nature/science pages. Wrote news articles. • Climate Change Interpreter: Worked closely with community partners to implement the new Alger Energy Savers program in Alger County. Developed community outreach plans and strategies to promote program to local residents and businesses. Presented energy and climate change programs to numerous community groups. Spoke at over 30 government, business, school, and civic meetings to promote the program.• Also, created and presented a variety of interpretive walks, talks, PowerPoints, and evening programs on various topics to park visitors, and at schools and community group meetings. Created and presented historic lighthouse tours. Planned and staffed special events. Created displays and staffed information tent for state and county fairs. Developed interpretive training and mentored new staff. Staffed interagency visitor center with U.S. Forest Service staff as well as other visitor contact stations.

Developed new, large-scale Guest Engagement Leader (staff) and new Ambassador (volunteer) programs. Administered all on-grounds educational programming delivered by permanent and seasonal staff, and volunteers. Hired and supervised eight staff who worked closely with 70 volunteers throughout the zoo. Conducted extensive training for staff and volunteers. Researched and developed all program content. • Coordinated all activities for as many as 150 docents in two areas, Main Zoo and Farm-in-the-Zoo, including daily scheduling, animal handling, mentoring, program development, and ongoing training. Administered day-to-day operations with increasing responsibility. Trained incoming docents. Worked with other departments to schedule docents to staff special zoo events. Retrieved animals for docent-led programs. • Trained docents to conduct environmental education programs, inform visitors of rules and safety issues, handle visitor services problems and questions, and how to serve as a front-line representative. Developed and implemented new policies and procedures.• Conducted administrative duties, maintained records, facilitated meetings, ordered supplies, mediated personnel issues, and solved complex problems. Served on teams to plan special programs and events, design curiosity carts, and create interpretive resources. Trained new docent coordinators.

• Mentored, supervised, and provided support to summer interpreters in 10 Michigan state parks as part of the DNR’s new Explorer Program for two seasons. Helped interpreters write program outlines, develop presentation skills, research topics, create interpretive materials, issue press releases, complete weekly reports, and locate guest speakers. Observed programs and evaluated performances. Trained staff hired late. • Conducted all administrative duties, including inventory, supplies, attendance numbers, petty cash, end-of-season guidelines, and reports. Served as liaison between park managers and Explorer Program, and handled minor personnel problems. Worked with permanent staff to develop guidelines and procedures.
