I have more than 18 years of experience in primary education. Throughout these period I have worked as a classroom teacher for reception and year one (kindergarten and 1st grade) at a British school in Brazil. During this period, I planned instruction according to the British and International Primary Curriculums. I also sought to have a clearer evaluation of my students' various strengths and took leadership in developing assessment procedures across year groups. This included improved rubrics and report card design. By implementing more efficient assessment, my colleagues were able to better plan for individual learning learning goals. Over the years, I have lead and pursued extensive professional development at leading institutions in areas ranging from phonics training, to classroom culture, to differentiation. I have also incorporated learning from Harvard University's Project Zero throughout my work as an educator, and most recently a coursework at Harvard on Educating Global Citizens.I also have been part of the development of a differentiated learning strategy called Flag Time. Flag Time builds on varied opportunities for assessment to motivate and encourage children to take the next step in their learning. Incorporating Flag Time into daily routines has proven to increase engagement, metacognition and confidence in students. I now lead successful workshops, talks and training sessions on the strategy.I earned my bachelor's degree in occupational therapy at Ithaca College, and a degree in primary education at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP). Most recently, I completed a post-graduate diploma of education, with a specialization in formative assessment, at Bishop Grosseteste College in the United Kingdom. Currently I work as a pre-K Head Teacher at Avenues Sao Paulo, having the opportunity to actually put in practice the latest strategies on education and at the same time continuing to learn and experiment new ones.
