I am a specialist in pyrolysis & gasification of biomass and waste derived fuels with considerable working knowledge in five critical interlinking areas. These are: the assessment and optimisation of unit processes in pyrolysis and gasification; feedstock chemistries and their influence on fuel behaviour during thermal conversion; commissioning prototype and commercial gasification systems; evaluating process operations; and conceptualising and developing process optimisation solutions. This is all underpinned by a decade of hands-on experience in:• Monitoring and evaluating process operations in steam turbines, medium speed diesels and gas turbines• Assessment and control of the environmental impact of air emissions and effluent dischargesI have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an MSc in Clean Technology and a BSc in Chemistry.Key Achievements• Devised a novel system for optimising syngas production in downdraft gasifiers• Achieved increased efficiency of feedstock conversion to syngas• Development of process operations which attain continuous production of high calorific value syngas prior to stable operation being established• Discovery of the critical role played by lignocellulose and other complex polymers in feedstock size selection for efficient gasification in fixed bed systems• Advancement of the knowledge base in the small scale gasification industry of the critical factors influencing tar production and the importance of the tar dewpoint in process optimisation• Expansion of the industry knowledge of the partitioning between syngas and waste residues of critical elements in the feedstock.
