As a Student Attorney as Tulane's Environmental Law Clinic, I drafted a Parish Council Appeal challenging a land use decision that would allow for industry expansion and an increase in toxic air emissions in St. James Parish, also known as Louisiana’s “Cancer Alley." I also drafted motions and reply briefs concerning a Fifth Circuit Appeal challenging a 404 permit granted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that would result in increased flooding in the region. After filing reply briefs, I helped organize and execute numerous moots in preparation my team's oral argument before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. I also conducted extensive legal research while facilitating client communications and managing a full academic course load at Tulane University Law School.

In this role, I drafted sections of a NOI letter to prepare for litigation regarding CWA violations pertaining to effluent limitations and sanitary sewer overflows. I also conducted legal research regarding covenants and conservation easements in preparation for mediation to safeguard a watershed that is vital to Birmingham’s drinking water supply. I had the opportunity to attend oral arguments, mediations, client meetings, coal mine site visits, as well as river sampling expeditions to collect evidence for potential litigation. I also researched various legal questions involving civil procedure, environmental law and property law.

Region 5 - Chicago Office

In this position I conducted legal research regarding environmental and corporate law to aid attorneys in their enforcement cases. I analyzed corporate dissolution procedure to identify mechanisms for obtaining costs against violators of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. I also researched the recent application of the Credible Evidence Rule in Clean Air Act cases in the 7th Circuit. Additionally, I conducted research regarding the Clean Water Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.

I assisted attorneys in preparation for trial, depositions, and discovery. I also drafted work product, reviewed witness statements, and compiled documents for pending cases. In this role, I also provided clerical duties which included issuing subpoenas and filing documents in court.

Facilitated communications between environmental nonprofits to protest the construction of local coal mine. Researched endangered mussel populations located in potentially impacted rivers and worked with a lawyer to justify the species’ standing in court.

Analyzed scholarly scientific literature in order to distinguish the effects of pesticide on various bird species for a study conducted by Dr. Michael Ward. Researched which pesticides demonstrated higher fatality rates and which species were most vulnerable to exposure.
