I am responsible for building out the organization's presence and our partners' relationships in Sacramento, in service of building our collective power and strengthening our collective advocacy efforts. I lead the legislative and budgetary strategy for a wide range of pro-immigrant policies, which currently includes the Food4All (AB 311/SB 245), Safety Net 4 All (SB 227), and Rep4All campaigns. I analyze the political landscape in Sacramento and monitor legislation impacting immigrant communities to make policy recommendations that advance the organization's mission. I have provided several me-toos in policy committee hearings, as well as expert public testimony for priority bills. Additionally, I have created and provided technical capacity trainings tailored to diverse audiences, empowering immigrant community members and advocates with the skills to effect change in Sacramento. Moreover, I have represented the organization at numerous partner events, including four panel events centered on movement building and immigrant rights.

I staffed the policy areas of public safety, judiciary affairs, health, human services, and insurance. Additionally, I staffed the Senate Budget Subcommittee 5, which focuses on public safety, corrections, judiciary affairs, labor, and transportation. I was also the lead staffer on the Senator's Guaranteed Income efforts. My bill assignments during the 2022 legislative session included SB 300, SB 384 (Chaptered), SB 739, and SB 1341. During the 2021-22 legislative session, I staffed the policy areas of health, human services, judiciary affairs, and veterans affairs. I also staffed the Senate Human Services Committee, which led to my appointed membership on the California Legislative Staff Education Institute, Human Services Cohort, for Fall 2021. My bill assignments included: SB 384 (Chaptered), SB 564 (Chaptered), SB 707 (Chaptered), and SB 739. As lead staffer on SB 739, the Universal Basic Income for Transition Age Youth Act, I also managed the companion $35 mil budget request which was incorporated into the 2021 State Budget through the establishment of the California Guaranteed Income Pilot Program. My work on the proposal consisted of drafting the bill language, forming a coalition of 30+ organizations, speaking on behalf of the Senator for a live radio show and podcast, and writing talking points for the Senator which he used during press conferences and interviews.

As Office Manager/Casework Specialist for the Capitol Office of State Senator Mike McGuire, my administrative duties included greeting office guests and directing them to the appropriate staffer; fielding phone calls from constituents; assisting with the Capitol Internship Program by interviewing, training, and supervising interns; formatting support letters and agendas; assisting with scheduling; coordinating travel arrangements for staff; maintaining office inventory; and processing all incoming member resolutions in a timely manner. My legislative duties consisted of taking meetings with constituents, lobbyists, and special interest groups to discuss pending legislation; drafting meeting memos; researching potential legislation; managing floor jockey requests; and tracking committee hearings.

San Luis Obispo, California Area

Under the direction of supervising attorney Kevin C. Gregg, my duties as a legal assistant included drafting immigration legal briefs by researching country conditions and immigration policies, translating client declarations of hardship from Spanish to English, assisting with client billing, entering new clients into an online database, and maintaining the office equipment.

San Luis Obispo, California Area

As my senior project, I coordinated the 2019 San Luis Obispo County (SLO) Democratic Convention alongside the SLO County Democratic Party Chair. As event coordinator, my duties included creating and leading a strategic event plan, overseeing the budget, publicizing the event on social media platforms and with local news outlets, and engaging with local and state elected officials, Cal Poly professors, and community leaders to schedule eight speaker events focusing on issues such as homelessness, immigration reform, and grassroots organizing. The event also served as a fundraising opportunity for the Cal Poly Democrats, an organization I served on and collaborated with to plan the event. After expenses, the event profited over $1,000 which was donated to the Cal Poly Democrats.
