Wild Seed Project builds awareness of the vital importance of native plants and provides all people with the tools to restore biodiversity in their own communities. We equip community members, public officials and municipalities, and land-holding individuals and organizations – from farmers to land trusts – with the skills and resources they need to collectively repopulate landscapes with native plants that expand wildlife habitat, support biodiversity, and build climate resilience.While at WSP I have:Led all aspects of our growing organization’s operations, finance, programming, fundraising, and strategic initiatives as chief executive officer. Catalyzed exponential growth of WSP’s financial and programmatic capacity over three years: increased annual budget from $268,000 to $1,090,000; expanded staff from 3.5 to 10.5 FTE; grew membership from 700 to over 2,000 households.Spearheaded diversified development strategy as primary fundraiser: designed and implemented capital campaign for new Native Seed Center.Created a people-focused organizational culture where WSP’s staff of 11 have the space to bring their individual skills to the table and collaborate towards shared goals. Supporting individual staff growth through intentional opportunities for team members to push themselves, making room to fail and learn from mistakes. Designed and implemented a collaborative budgeting process that centers staff ownership of their work and the financial impact of their efforts. Recruited and cultivated both short- and long-term partnerships with businesses, schools, municipalities, governmental agencies, libraries, land trusts, and other nonprofits. Set strategic direction for organization, in partnership with Board, and led staff team in bringing that vision to life. Transformed organization’s priorities and practices through the implementation of a decolonization and climate justice lens.

Maine Initiatives is a community of more than 2,000 individual donors and activists supporting greater social, economic, and environmental justice in Maine through informed, intentional, and collective philanthropy.While at Maine Initiatives I acted in Associate Director role: managed and mentored staff and interns, played leadership role in internal culture building, participated in budgeting process, engaged with Board, managed all organizational technology needs, and actively contributed to organizational strategic visioning. I imagined, designed, and directed major Grants for Change (G4C) participatory grantmaking program, engaging 650+ people in grantmaking, and making $1.25 million in grants to 45 organizations. G4C is an internationally recognized model for cutting-edge community-led grantmaking.I led organization’s racial justice work, including building and stewarding trust-based relationships with BIPOC community leaders, acting as a movement builder and community organizer in advancing a collective vision for racial justice in Maine, and vocally pushing Maine philanthropy to embrace anti-racism and decolonization in grantmaking practice, grantee portfolio, and transference of power.I built and maintained strong relationships with grantee partners and direct innovative grantee convening and capacity building program; advocated for grantee priorities to funders and donors.I designed strategy and directed organizational communications including email, social media, website, & print materials to center equity and grantee vision and voice. Managed 2020-2021 website redesign. Acted as an educator/facilitator/speaker in various settings including community panels, college courses, conferences, intensive community education programs, and many others.And I played leadership roles in advocacy efforts including as Co-Chair of the Maine Philanthropy Center’s Advocacy Committee and on the Steering Committee Member of the Coalition on Racial Equity.

Firefly is a consulting company dedicated to providing innovative online services to nonprofit organizations. We are friendly, fast and affordable and help with strategy, design, and implementation and all things in between.While at Firefly I ran the sales program for this independent creative design and development consulting firm serving the progressive nonprofit sector.I managed $2 million in client sales from lead to close including qualifying, project evaluation, project estimating, proposal writing, negotiations, contracting, internal handoff and kick off. I strategically planned technology needs with clients to match communications and marketing challenges with technology possibilities, budgeting constraints, and available services.I provided account cultivation throughout a project in order to assess client satisfaction and maintain a high quality relationship throughout the project life-cycle and onto the next project.

As Idealware’s Director of Partnerships and Learning, I oversaw the organization’s training activities including online seminars and live presentations. A co-author of both the Idealware Nonprofit Social Media Decision Guide and the Consumers Guide to Donor Management Systems, and the creator of hundreds of hours of curriculum, I have worked with nonprofits of all sizes to help them answer mission-centric technology questions.While at Idealware I managed all aspects of our training program including program budget, organizational strategy, content delivery approach, curriculum design, and complex scheduling.Directed fundraising activities including annual fund, sponsorship, major gifts, & grant program.I strategically grew training program through innovative product development, building revenue from $25,000 to $250,000 over four years. I initiated, built, and maintained relationships with key partners including foundations, nonprofit associations, consulting firms, and capacity building organizations. I played a key role on the organizational leadership team including developing the organizational budget, acting as a liaison to the Board of Directors, and participating in strategic planning. I supervised a team of 10 including Training Associates and a team of Expert Trainers.I designed curriculum based on Idealware research including the creation of over 100 professional development programs covering all areas of nonprofit technology. And I trained internationally on technology topics through webinars, courses, single and multi-day in-person workshops, and conferences; led over 200 capacity building workshops yearly.

The Dyer Library and Saco Museum act as the public library, town historic archive, and a cultural center telling the vibrant history and present day stories of Saco, Maine. While acting as the entity's Fund Development Manager I oversaw all aspects of Library and Museum fundraising including annual fund, corporate and individual solicitation, database management, and fundraising and donor recognition events. I planned and managed events to develop donor base and increase DLSM public image, and developed short and long range Development Plans to match organizational growth goals.

Uphams Corner Charter School was an innovative middle and high school, offering an academically rigorous, rhetoric-centered education in the liberal arts and sciences, leading to sound understanding, earnest reflection, self-discipline, integrity, and action. I had the pleasure of working as the Director of Development during the last two years of the school's operations. In that role I: Directed all fundraising activities and worked as member of School Leadership Team.Assessed school needs and created development plans and budgets to achieve fundraising goals; worked closely with Board of Trustees to achieve goals.Built fundraising infrastructure and creation of all aspects of official Development Office.Served as an active member of the Building Committee, working to acquire and fund a new school building.Managed all private, corporate, and government grants, notably securing a LISC grant for new school construction.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (now known as Breakthrough TD1) works to find a cure for Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes. The organization works as a chapter institution and I served as the Special Events Coordinator for both the Maine and Vermont Chapters. My role focused on building community around the mission of curing Type 1 Diabetes through the organizing of community walk-a-thons, golf tournaments, and auctions.

Neighborhood House Charter School (NHCS) is a tuition-free open enrollment charter school for grades K1-12 in Dorchester, MA that is a public alternative to traditional district schools. Our goal is to graduate scholars who achieve academically, but we know that scholars need more than academic skills to achieve success. Neighborhood House students are scholars who are prepared to face their futures as learners who seek knowledge, embrace effort, act thoughtfully and commit to the common good. Our program integrates rich and structured learning with comprehensive social/emotional support to develop in scholars: 1) academic content knowledge and core skills like critical thinking and communication, 2) social/emotional resiliency, and 3) a sense of civic duty and a moral compass.I served in multiple roles while at the Neighborhood House, beginning my tenure as a performing arts teacher for the middle school, fill a needed role as a long term substitute mathematics teacher for the 6th and 7th grade, and then finding my home as the Grants Manager and Development Associate.

Citizen Schools helps all students thrive in school and beyond through hands-on learning and career mentors. The Teaching Fellowship program attracts young people from across the country to lead the organization's afterschool programs while getting hands-on training as teachers and educational advocates.
