My path with big data started in grad school where I was part of the exciting transformation from low-density microarray analysis in Excel to whole-genome sequencing and building out tools for nucleosome and transcription factor modeling in R. From there, I became a business-focused data analyst. My time at grad school has prepared me well for digging into sometimes poorly defined questions, preparing and organizing data, and finding a way to make results happen. It also left me a fan of the Oxford comma and with an aversion to presentation slides that contain paragraphs of text.
