Most people don't share their high school part-time jobs, but I was fortunate enough to be given a rare opportunity to be the first high schooler KELOLAND News hired as a production assistant, jumpstarting my career in broadcast news. I worked alongside reporters, producers and anchors to create graphics, edit video, prep materials and scripts for newscasts and run the teleprompter during live broadcasts.

My 10-week internship at KELOLAND Television was a very hands-on experience. I was trusted with approving content, writing and producing live newscasts for six weeks. For the remaining four weeks, I worked as an on-air reporter and video journalist. This 40-hour/week internship overlapped with my part-time work at KELOLAND News, so I wore many hats. When the internship was over, the news department continued to leverage my reporting and producing skills in a part-time capacity through the rest of my college education.
