I’m building an elementary program at a small boarding school. My focus is on developing a program that suits the needs of exceptional, energetic, curious, young, and intelligent students. My focus is on developing a program that suits the needs of exceptional, energetic, curious, young, and intelligent students. This draws on my elementary and special education training, as well as my experience at an inclusive summer camp, and the incorporation of inquiry, hands-on experiences, and outdoor learning. My older students are working with me to prepare for their transitions to middle school programs. In addition to working with my elementary students, I teach electives to small groups of students, usually focusing on interests I can share with the children, such as photography, writing for the school newspaper, designing a yearbook, and other art and game-based subjects. Living in a school community also provides the opportunity to work with students outside of class, building relationships, helping with school work, leading weekend activities, and helping out in dorms. I work on a team of 22 administrators and 70 counselors to provide a fun and growth-filled summer camp experience for 5 5-19 day sessions of 50 children between the ages of 5 and 17 who experience challenges in the areas of behavior, emotions, social interaction, and learning. Along with the other administrators, I implement behavior management plans, ensure health and safety, and support campers in development of their skills. As part of the Camper Services Team, I manage the goals program for my campers, as well as the 10 campers who attend 5 day sessions on Crescent Camp. Running the goals program involves training staff to understand and have goals meetings, selecting individualized goals for each camper by incorporating my own opinions and rapport with parent preferences, monitoring progress made toward goal completion, and facilitating and scheduling rewards. I also send updates to parents and guardians of campers 3-4 times per session to update them on their camper’s success and well-being. I preserve session memories and records for camp through assembly of bunk logs, photography, and video, as well as overseeing the creation of the end of session slideshow. Show less

I promote academic success, social interactions, and participation through passive and interactive educational programming. When situations arise I help students with conflict resolution, acting as a peer mediator and mentor. I've worked with students on a wide range of assignments from research papers and resumes. While working with individuals, I not only try to help them improve their writing but also to build on their writing skills. I assist students in more than writing, sometimes helping them to improve communication, reading, annotation, and self-editing skills. While working with individuals, I not only try to help them improve their writing but also to build on their writing skills. I assist students in more than writing, sometimes helping them to improve communication, reading, annotation, and self-editing skills. My appointments sometimes come in the form of one-time meetings, while others are set up to be recurring for an entire semester, giving me opportunities to meet a variety of clients but also to assist someone who needs more support and to help them achieve long-term growth and success. So far, I've used APA, MLA, Chicago, and ASA formats. I find that as I work with students I learn from them and am able to improve my own skills and writing, through assisting them with theirs. As Day Camp Administrator I oversaw 5 day camp sessions with groups of 12 campers at a time. Three of these sessions ran for 8 hours a day, the second of which went concurrently with an overnight group. I communicated with parents about daily progress, checked campers in and out during drop-off and pick-up, collaborated with program administrators to create and implement daily schedules, oversaw camper goals, planned rewards, and independently ran evening programs for the entire village.
