About Andreas Hartel

My goal in science is to understand processes involved in disease mechanisms to develop new detection and defence strategies. I have extensive experience in protein purification from different organisms using homologous, heterologous or in-vitro expression systems, ranging from soluble proteins to single transmembrane-domain proteins up to TM-protein complexes. In addition I acquired a unique and highly interdisciplinary expertise combining the fields of membrane biophysics and modern bioelectronics. At the moment, i am developing tools to study transport processes on transmembrane proteins using state-of-the-art electronics focused on diseases mechanisms such as antimicrobial resistance or the Coronavirus Disease.

Proteins were expressed, purified and reconstituted in liposomes to provide functional characterisation of the complex in vitro.• Validation of complex formation using lipid nano-discs and various chromatographic methods.• Worked closely with electrical engineer to develop an electrochemical tool to study transport processes at RND-efflux pumps with extremely high sensitivity.
