Current• Sourcing images for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s monthly flagship magazine, Chemistry World, as well as for its bimonthly chemistry education magazine, Education in Chemistry, for print and digital reproduction• Undertaking picture research by licensing images from image libraries or finding relevant contacts to obtain appropriate imagery• Commissioning editorial illustration and photography worldwide for a range of articles and in a variety of styles, writing comprehensive briefs, art directing the execution of the artwork and ensuring the timely delivery of the files• Producing work in-house, ranging from bespoke photography to putting together creative artwork from individual stock elements and art directing design-led features• Finding creative visual solutions for difficult conceptual or highly abstract covers and articles and providing science specific knowledge when needed• Clearing copyright to allow the reproduction of all images and negotiating competitive fees in accordance with the available budget• Building strong relationships with established artists and picture libraries and seeking new suppliers and new talent to expand the RSC’s portfolio of contacts
