This role virtually tics all boxes when it comes to application management. The application manager for the 'engineering' community at VDL ETG T&D is responsible for defining and fulfilling the types of management required to successfully operate the engineering applications in scope. This includes technical management, license management, creating understandable communication towards end users and stakeholders and addressing potential quality/efficiency improvements for processes and workflows.

The Platform Lead role took all responsibilities deriving from the previous Platform Analyst role and added the support and responsibilities for finance for the Design and Optical domain. The role in itself matured over time and André was now part of a fully End-to-End supporting team in Signify, still providing technical support but also managing the financial flow, again, in close contact with his business peers.

In the role of Operations Service Manager, André was responsible for managing applications present in two R&D domains: the Design and Optical domain. The work consisted of governing with business peers and steercos to successfully optimize and lean all applications in these R&D businesses. Virtually 100% of all aspects to onboard and, where needed, phase out applications consisted of André's portfolio with the exceptence of providing support for finance processes.

As an SME at Philips IT4R&D new skills were required. Although André remained to stay involved in application management, IT4R&D became a partner and supplier towards the Philips business, providing local and global IT infrastructure solutions and consultancy.These solutions often required in-depth knowledge at a detailed technical scale as well as at business process level.André's main role was to consult in several IT projects as a technical specialist and as projectmanager. Projects involved IT migrations, merging business IT of new aqcuisitions and implementation of new IT solutions. The initial scope of serving a specific R&D audience within Philips was broaden as well and projects soon involved consultancy in other areas such as manufacturing, warehousing and office IT.

As an overall IT Engineer André's role gradually changed to a more service oriented 2nd and 3rd line role, with a specific focus on R&D application management. The work and responsibilities involved the complete application LCM chain such as managing and negotiating business demand, consulting on licensing and deployment through standard and non-standard tooling.Throughout this period, other challenges were also met as old business processes hampered and new ones required to be implemented. Here André was one of the members responsible for consulting and building the intake process of application deployment within Philips at a global scale.

What initially started out as three months-project at Philips' Intellectual Properties department, soon turned out to expand. A more demanding and professional role was required and it didn't take long before André joined the local team of IT infrastructure and application experts, fulfilling the role of Support Engineer.This new and interesting carreer step, which was quite different compared to the graphics business, left a tremendous positive impact on him.Giving up on his own Artrock Multimedia company was therefore an easy decision to make.After two years of providing dedicated IT support to Philips IP, the coverage was expanded to the rest of the Philips facilities at the High Tech Campus. At that point in time, Philips Research and Philips Semiconductors occupied most of the Campus grounds, together with a large number of so called incubators.The majority of these customers required a different sort of IT service, one that was -next to generic office IT- also capable of supporting laboratories and measurement equipment.A new demand requires a new role, which is why André now also got a chance to join up with other teams of experts and refocus on R&D application support and R&D hardware.
