Andrew joined Chetwoods Architects as an Associate in July 2007 with his role developing within the studio resulting in a promotion to Regional Director. Andrew’s current role includes managing the delivery of projects under the Sainsbury’s framework. He has worked in the Extension and New Build workstreams to deliver a series of projects that ranged from small infill extensions to new ‘store on stilts’ and included off site modular systems and BREEAM assessments.Andrew’s skills reflect the broad range of projects delivered at Chetwoods. He worked on a number of regeneration projects in Hull, including participation on the design led completion for the Fruitmarket and the East Bank residential led development. He led the design and delivery of a new non-food retail store on an out of town site. He attended public consultations and worked closely with planning consultants to negotiate planning approval for retail space within an ‘employment use’ site, which gained a BREEAM Retail very good. The flexibility that Chetwoods can provide was demonstrated with a project for Harrogate Ladies College. A simple refurbishment was developed into an ideas study and a cost effective refurbishment of the Victorian school to form a new Business School, now marketed internationally to raise their profile and gain new students.

Andrew joined Hodder Associates as Associate and led the detailed design stage for of a new high rise, high quality residential scheme for a leading residential developer. The role included research into unitised cladding systems to suit the design intent and the cost plan for the 40 storey tower.

Andrew first joined DLA as a year out placement from University and worked his way through the business to a role of Associate. He worked in a number of sectors, which included food retail for Morrisons and a key role in the design, planning and implementation of the mixed-use, residential led Brewery Wharf, Leeds development.He joined the Manchester studio in 2003 and helped build-up the new office and establish it as a successful studio with a speciality in further education. Working at each stage from feasibility, planning and through to practical completion his communication skills aided the Senior Management Team within the F.E Colleges to understand each step of the process. Andrew’s attention to detail also helped with the refurbishment of the Listed Garden Room at The Swan Hotel, Harrogate to turn it from an almost derelict space into a leading function room.
