Robert F. Kennedy once said that “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”. It was only failing as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration that I realized what I wanted to do with my life, and that I have the tools to achieve it. Air traffic scenarios were part video game and part 1,000,000 piece puzzle. It forced me to quickly enhance my analytical capabilities, as well as forced myself to learn procedures, agreements, and general knowledge about aviation in a very short time. I was constantly using my problem solving skills in order to put the correct pieces in place, otherwise it was game over. Having to make quick decisions and constantly scan for potential issues bolstered my critical thinking and problem solving skills. Remaining calm under the intense pressure of instructors evaluating your every move made me prepared to conquer any stressful situation.After re-joining American Airlines, I became the go-to person for my group and I’m the bridge between our team and others inside and out of our company. My various jobs within American have led me to engage and develop a wide range of skills, from archiving and analyzing data to being knowledgeable of our benefits and educating our team members on how to use them. I directly contributed to the Wellness team’s first ever $1 million month in earned Wellness Rewards in 2019, as I went to numerous airports to speak to thousands of our team members about their wellness rewards, health benefits, HSAs, etc. I use my collaboration skills on a daily basis, as I communicate with various teams to come up with different techniques to drive engagement, set up events, and spread awareness throughout our campus and network.
