As the Director of Talent identification, I am responsible for developing and implementing a number of identification strategies across our Mahd sports that will enable Mahd to reach its goal. These strategies include the use of science based identification methodologies to help identify those that process the potential physical attributes that underpin sporting success, as well as systematic scouting initiatives that rely more on the traditional talent selection model of athlete recruitment. In addition to this, I am also responsible for the development of Takween, an active after school Physical Literacy initiative that will see centres established across the Kingdom, allowing children 8-12 to explore movement and play, but importantly, provide them with the physical tools to allow any sporting potential to be realised. In support of this, the Academy recognised that if it was to fulfill its primary mission of identifying and developing future athletic talent for Qatar, then it needed to be proactive and invest in a nationwide pathway system that would allow both the detection and development of potential talent, rather than to rely solely on a natural Talent Selection model in the hope that athletic potential would arise. As Head of the National Talent Identification program I am required to foster and maintain close partnerships with the Qatar Ministry of Education, Qatar Olympic Committee and a Number of National Sports Federations, to develop sustainable athletic pathways. In my current position I oversee the Academies Talent Identification Program (TID); which was based on a number of successful International programs that relied on a science based identification of the physical traits underpinning athletic talent as a way of identifying those children who demonstrate ‘potential’. This is a nationwide initiative which entails the Anthropometric and Physical screening of all grade 6 boys throughout the county. The purpose of which is to try and identify those boys that possess the physical traits conducive to future athletics success. In addition to this as an I.S.A.K. Level 3 Anthropomotrist, I am also responsible for the coordination and delivery of all the anthropometry assessments of all student-athletes within the Academy, as well as working with the individual sports program coaches to recommend and provide relevant sports science support to the Foundation (Grade 7) and Development Programs (Grades 8&9).
