Defined M&P requirements, set up standard M&P business operating processes, and supported multiple engine designs as part of the Engines Design Office-Introduced M&P requirements, initiated standard M&P drawing review process, and introduced Parts, Materials, and Processes Control Authority in order to enable a forum to quickly make difficult M&P technical decisions, enabling clear direction to programs and ensuring technical consistency throughout Engine designs.-Provided alternate environmental requirements verification approach to enable qualification via analysis rather than test, saving up to 24 component-level environmental tests and resulting in cost and schedule savings-Successfully completed Oxygen Compatibility Analysis for all components of the BE-4 engine

Manages, develops and motivates employees.• Managed teams in multiple locations to execute material qualification testing of adhesives, thermal protection materials and other non-metallic materials ahead of schedule for use on NASA’s Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen powered SLS Core Stage • Led technical resolution of critical SLS program items, especially fiberglass generated by overbraid used in the Liquid Oxygen Tank and hydrogen compatibility of multi-metal flex hose weld, preventing ~$5m and ~$2.3m of rework, respectively • Captured ~$13m of funding to successfully execute M&P tasks for Boeing’s proposals for the SLS Core Stage and Exploration Upper Stage contracts, requiring an in-depth understanding of NASA’s expectations of M&P effort required based on NASA specific contractual requirements and previous rocket design experience.* Developed and defined materials design allowables for a number of metallic materials, both base metals and welds, for use in static structural design analysis and fracture analysis of primary structure and propulsion system components

Defined M&P requirements for suppliers and selected M&P for use prior to reviewing engineering drawings for Boeing designed parts and components of the Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage.• Authored Space Launch System Materials & Processes Selection, Control, and Implementation Plan, Corrosion Control Plan, and Contamination Control Plan, ensuring design of the SLS Core Stage would be in compliance with NASA-STD-6016. • Successfully coordinated with the NASA customer to receive approval of technically challenging hydrogen embrittlement and oxygen compatibility SLS Materials Usage Agreements for multiple propulsion components to assure a technically acceptable design could be achieved without impacting schedule. • Brokered a technical solution for a novel design approach which included an Inconel 718 bracket bonded over Pour On Foam Insulation over an Inconel 718 tube, enabling the design to be compliant to various technical requirements, including NASA-STD-5019 and NASA-STD-6016. • Successfully completed the Business for the Future program on Program Management Best Practices which taught the importance of and provided lessons for maintaining control of the seven PMBP baselines.

Implemented new designs for Ares’ Upper Stage and analyzed failures for multiple Space Shuttle elements as a support subcontractor working at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.• Developed manufacturing processes and wrote a NASA process specification for cleaning and corrosion protection of Ares’ Upper Stage.• Implemented realistic requirements for the corrosion protection of the Thermal Protection System on Ares’ Upper Stage.• Improved electroless nickel plating process used on Solid Rocket Booster hardware, decreasing the number of discrepancy reports generated.• Provided corrective actions to be taken on corroded External Tank hardware to support schedule and alloy the tank to fly safely. • Optimized properties of trivalent chromium pretreatment, allowing replacement of toxic hexavalent chromium conversion coating • Determined root cause of and recommended corrective action for corrosion related failures on the ECLSS on the ISS• Performed and analyzed cabinet corrosion testing per ASTM specifications.

Studied crevice corrosion of corrosion resistant alloys as part of DOE Corrosion Cooperative in support of the proposed Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository. Worked with others while designing electrochemical experiments and troubleshooting experimental difficulties. • Developed method to control crevice geometry on the micrometer scale in order to predict crevice corrosion stability under given conditions.• Determined scaling law for growth of morphology of crevice corrosion in C-22 which allowed for more accurate failure mode prediction.• Quantified corrosion resistant properties of stainless steel and nickel based superalloys as a function of solution chemistry using cyclic polarization techniques • Presented talk at NACE 2006 RIP Symposium entitled, “Quantitative Analyses of the Severity of Attack on Crevice Corrosion Surfaces”

Responsibilities included product development and failure analysis which required the use of SEM/EDS, FT-IR and optical microscopes-Participated in heat dissipation studies for components which lead to increased production efficiency.-Performed a validation for the use of a thermally conductive polymer to implement in production resulting in leaner production and less rework.-Independently developed a model to perform gold embrittlement studies to understand the impact of the utilization of gold leaded devices so that production steps can be removed.
