The Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams (WMD CST) were established to support domestic authorities by responding to release of hazardous material (HAZMAT)/CBRN agents both intentionally and unintentionally as well as natural or manmade disasters that have potential to result in catastrophic loss of life or property. I served on the 3RD WMD CST in Pennsylvania as a Survey Team Chief where we were responsible for using field detection equipment and sampling techniques to aid in the detection and identification of HAZMAT and CBRNE agents/substances, assessing current and potential consequences, analyzing response measures, and advising local, state, and federal command structures with appropriate requests for additional follow-on resources. Additional Responsibilities: Supervised and performed the extraction of injured team members in the event that they became injured or ill in a contaminated environment. - Assumed responsibility for all rope rescue operations throughout the team including training team members. - Supervised team members in PMCS and calibration of equipment on a weekly basis or as required. - Placed work orders for equipment and requested mission essential equipment when technical issue arose. - Ordered mission essential CoMSuPCen consumables for the entire Survey Section.
