The Tutorial Project is an organization which has tutored and mentored Baltimore City elementary school children in grades 1-5 for over 50 years. Targeting children who have fallen below grade level, the program attempts to improve proficiency in core math and reading skills, while fostering a positive, fun, and constructive learning environment. As an organizer, I managed tutor-tutee groups, pre and post tested the children to monitor their progress and development in core areas, communicated with parents, and oversaw the daily operations of the program.

Conducted independent and unique research under the guidance of Dr. Ronald Walters. Spending the first portion of the year research my topic, my work in the Spring of 2015 culminated in a unique forty page thesis detailing the "Lost Years" of the Vietnamese socialist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh during his time in the United States. I examined how the radicalist hotbeds of Manhattan and Boston could have inspired and shaped his future rhetoric once he returned to his homeland some twenty years later.

Thread is a non profit organization that targets students in the bottom quartile of their freshman class academically, who are also facing significant challenges in their home and personal life. They are paired with a group of dedicated volunteers, who act as mentors, tutors, and serve as a support network for the student. In my role at Thread, I acted as a liaison between Baltimore City High School Students employed at Youthworks worksites across the city, their employers, and their volunteer families. I aided in the designing of employer orientation materials for the program, which outlined expectations, responsibilities, and important deadlines for the summer. I also conducted site visits in order to distribute important paperwork to students and their employers, observe the students in their worksites, and ensure that they were satisfied with their summer experience. Over the course of the summer, our team also planned and ran professional development seminars on sexual health and resume building. I also aided in the development of an end of the summer symposium where students were able to reflect on their summer employment experiences.

Worked 40 hours a week at a takeout seafood restaurant located on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Learned how to fry, sauté, and grill a number of dishes incorporating salmon, shrimp, flounder, soft shell crabs, oysters, scallops, and tuna. By the end of my second summer, I was an evening broiler cook responsible for feeding hundreds of customers an evening. Also worked on dish washing duty when the restaurant was understaffed and needed extra help.

Interned in the Donohue Botany Laboratory at Duke University. Looked at the impact of altering climatic conditions on the germination potential observed within the genus Cakile by analysis of floral display and herkogamic metrics. Created a poster and presented my findings at a poster session attended by leading faculty members of the Peddie School.
