As a Policy Specialist at AAISA (Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies), I’m passionate about supporting Alberta’s newcomer-serving sector by developing policies that make a real difference. Data and clear communication are at the heart of meaningful change. In my role, I use research and analysis to create policies grounded in evidence and aligned with best practices. I collaborate with government partners, community organizations, and AAISA’s member agencies to advocate for policies that enhance services and support newcomers.My work is about more than just policy—it’s about strategic action that reflects AAISA’s mission and vision, ensuring our members have the tools and guidance they need. I draw from diverse data sources, such as AHS reports and community insights, to shape responsive policies that address current challenges. Building strong partnerships is also crucial to my role, fostering collaboration and resource-sharing to create a collective impact. I believe that informed policy-making and effective communication can empower communities and drive lasting change.

Designed, applied and executed a mixed-method evaluative framework to identify service gaps and provide recommendations for the Newcomer Assistance Program (NSP) to increase overall service efficacy. Evaluative scope included four overarching domains: (1) service delivery models, (2) internal management support, (3) community outreach, (4) professional development. Developed and conducted focus groups, surveys, and interviews with staff members and newcomer clients. Findings were outlined a comprehensive evaluation and research report which outlined identified gaps along the four domains and recommendations to improve efficacy based on literature and common best practices among similar services.

Junior Fellows contribute to the research, goals and learning culture of the Institute. They work with the institute to support the development of progressive public policy and encourage greater citizen engagement.

The NSPIRG (Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group) provides support and resources to community members and students at Dalhousie University and King's College who are working to engage and inspire action around social and environmental issues.
