Mr. Ogara, Andrew Ikechukwu is a Development Sociologist; and a Community Development Specialist by training and vocation.He has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Second class honours, (upper division) in sociology in 1990 and a Master of Science (M.Sc) in the same discipline from the University of Lagos in 1999.Mr. Ogara has over 20 years of Community Development experience having worked in various capacities in numerous community projects in the country. From 1990-1993, he was a project inspector in the defunct Directorate for Foods, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI); an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria set up to tackle poverty and improve the quality of life of Nigerians in rural communities.Mr. Ogara has since then been involved in initiating and implementing numerous community based projects in a wide variety of fields including Primary Health Care, Sanitation, Youth Development, Women’s Health and Rights, Micro- Credit, Education and Literacy, Poverty Alleviation/Reduction, Reproductive Health/HIV/AIDS, Male as Partners, Gender Violence, Safe Motherhood and Family Planning.Mr. Ogara has consulted for and worked in projects funded by various international organization and donor agencies including WHO, UNICEF, DFID, UNDP, EngenderHealth, CEDPA, UNFPA and the MacArthur Foundation, IWHC and Ford Foundation as a field officer and a community researcher, a trainer, workshop facilitator, seminar and conference organizer and presenter.Mr. Ogara believes that the presence of a critical mass of highly skilled and organized Community Development Professionals is a sine qua non for effective Community Development service delivery to the grassroots and the nation.He therefore founded the Community Development Institute|CDI Nigeria, an independent, non-profit educational institution devoted purly for the advancement of development knowledge and practice through research and training.
