What do you want to be when you grow up? As a kid, my answer to that question changed every three months or so. I wanted to be an actor, an architect, a journalist, a renowned lead guitarist in a famous rock band (oh, I was close). I pursued many interests and always gave them my all. I didn't care if they were lucrative down the line—honing the craft fulfilled me plenty. I realized a common, creative thread in my passions. I felt compelled to bring my ideas to fruition in original, impactful ways. And so, I was drawn to the vast and ubiquitous field of marketing. My penchant for the written word served my efforts well, but I recognized there was far more to effective marketing. I sent hundreds of email campaigns, surveys, and messages before learning about audience segmentation and opt-in models (lesson learned). I learned the importance of keywords and SEO. I picked up the Adobe CC suite and taught myself the tenets of digital design. I learned how to think long and short-term from a business owner's perspective; how to strategize, how to optimize. Most importantly, I learned from my mistakes. I'm still learning, still honing the craft. I have a thirst for knowledge, no matter how esoteric. My academic background in philosophy helps me grasp first principles and explain complex concepts in comprehensible language. Marketing in the B2B world is my bread and butter, but, like 10-year-old me, I'm still drawn to half a dozen hobbies at any given time. I'm an avid reader and writer, an accomplished powerlifter, a decent musician, and a phenomenal cook (just ask Mindee Rodes). Maybe I'm not a Renaissance man, though that's something to aspire to. I'd love to learn from you, too. I can't possibly do it all in one lifetime, so here I am, one among 740 million LinkedIn users. 740 million perspectives and experiences each as rich and storied as the others.
