Work has been apart of my life since I was 12, when my neighbor who had started a lawn care business came to me and asked if I wanted to make some extra cash. I started young, with the goal to save enough money to purchase my first truck before I had my license, and I achieved that. I didn't know at the time, but while learning all the hard skills on the job, I was developing my soft skills along the way. We were a small company, and me being my boss's right hand man, I was interacting with all of our customers at a young age. I learned a lot in the four years I spent at Wilson Lawn Care, but eventually I decided I reached as high as I could in the company and it was time for me to seek employment elsewhere. My father works at a metal finishing company in New Haven, called American Anodizing. I attained a part-time job in the winter times, when lawn care slowed down, after my father recommended me to his boss as a part time "racker" - where I would put aluminum products onto metal racks in preparation for them to be processed in chemicals. When I decided I was done with lawn care, I figured since I already had a job at this metal finishing shop I could just start working year round. The boss was happy to have me, and after a few months of watching my work ethic, he told me about an opening in the company where an employee would be leaving in a couple months. He told me the position of Shipping/Receiving Coordinator is mine if I want it, and I accepted. I worked the position exceptionally for a little over a year, all the while the company grew at a rapid pace. Spring 2017, my supervisor tells me he wants to move me elsewhere in the company. He was very impressed with my work ethic and wanted to make me the Quality Control Manager, as he was rearranging upper management as we grew. For about a year now, I have been in this position, learning all things quality involved in a business. I work weekdays in the mornings, and am a full-time student in the afternoon.Update - I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and still working full time at American Anodizing Co. as a Quality Manager, I have been in the position for 4 years now. I have put the company through audits for the past 4 years while maintaining all the other duties I have as a Quality Manager. I have earned great managerial experience in my position through overseeing projects and managing co-workers.
