My responsibilities included testing the FIX engine using a bespoke test harness, and also manually testing the internet based client front end, to ensure its compatibility. Another of my tasks was to assist our clients in connecting to our FIX engine, in regards to both FIX functionality and the system specification, and also supporting our test team, when required. I also installed a management information system using Microsoft Access and then created reports using SQL to interrogate a Sybase database via an ODBC connection. Another of my duties was as a network administrator responsible for the company network which involved adding new users, upgrading network software and hardware and troubleshooting any problems. One of the functions of my position was to write test plans and scripts, monitor the running of the tests, initiate software releases to client machines and manage the companies Vax/Alpha cluster. There were many different types of testing that we covered, amongst those were regression, Y2K, performance and stress testing, all errors were logged and these were reported to the development team. Automated testing tools were used in testing the products VTEST for the Vax/Alpha products and SQA Team Test for the p.c. products, both of which I attended both basic and advanced courses.
