Sungard Availability Services is a $1 Billion provider of IT hosting, managed services, enterprise cloud, disaster recovery and business continuity services, operating in 11 countries. I was hired by its seven private equity owners to turn around and spin out the business, which had lost its relevance in the face of a changing IT industry.

After AT&T’s acquisition of USi, led $600+ million global Internet Hosting & Application Services (H&AS) business, reporting to President of $40 billion Global Business Services.

USi was the first Application Service Provider (ASP). Founded in 1998, USi delivered the functionality of enterprise IT applications as a service over the Internet. I joined as CFO in July of 1998 and led the company’s IPO. I became CEO in July of 2000 as the Internet bubble burst, turned around operations, took the company through Chapter 11 and recapitalization to clean up its Balance Sheet, and then grew the company to profitability and its acquisition by AT&T.

Joined turnaround management team of this $3.5 billion revenue, $15 billion asset multi-line insurer, which was sold to The St. Paul Companies (subsequently sold to Travelers). As direct report to the Chairman had broad responsibilities including oversight of the companies reinsurance businesses (~$600MM gross premiums), corporate marketing, advertising and PR, and a proactive M&A program. Together with Chairman led 18-month process to explore long-term corporate alternatives, culminating in the $3.3 Billion sale.

An international management and technology consulting firm. Elected Vice President (Partner) after six years. Responsible for building client relationships, developing staff, and conducting client assignments. Principal areas of focus were development and implementation of corporate and business strategies across a wide range of industries, in particular information industries, media, and commercial aviation. Also built firm’s practice in pricing strategy.
