I founded the first startup incubator at Brown University. I designed the programming, planned events, networked with mentors, designed the grant structure, and coordinated $100K in funding from the Brown Venture Launch Fund. I got a letter from the Mayor of Providence supporting our DOE grant proposal for $40 Million. We also partnered with National Grid (utility) and a local electric car company. I also helped launch Project Get Ready RI, a collaborative stakeholder workgroup initiative bringing together utilities, city government, state government, non-profits, environmental groups, clean cities grants coordinators, local business owners, and smart grid startups to advance the adoption of electric vehicles in Rhode Island and New England at large.

I interned with True Ventures, a top early stage venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, as part of the TEC 2010 program. We learned about startups and venture capital from some of the top technology mentors, investors, and founders in the Valley. As part of the program, I also interned with marketing automation portfolio company, Loopfuse, doing marketing strategy and design.

I worked directly with the founder to design the original logo and branding strategy. I also helped design the business model around responsibly extracted oil credits in the early stages and networked with investors and lawyers involved with indigenous class action suits against oil companies in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

I learned how to manage inventory and do cash accounting for a brick and mortar retail establishment in Philadelphia selling variety discount goods. I also worked on re-designing the store layout to increase revenue based on consumer shopping behavioral patterns.

My first startup was in middle school when I opened a student micro-lending savings and loan business at The Haverford School. I negotiated a permit and space to operate, I took deposits, gave out loans, wrote my own legal documents for loans and accounts, created deposit slips and loan receipts, and accounted for all the interest accrued and accounts on Excel. I eventually donated over $800 in profit to the Cunningham Charity for giving used textbooks to students in underprivileged schools.
