As senior scientist I perform data analysis and modeling in a variety of contexts ranging from DNA to ecosystems, including ecological risk assessment, damage assessment, trend analysis, and prediction to understand linkages and changes in ecological systems.

Global freshwater fisheries are far more important to economies and nutrition than is apparent from past and current policies governing their sustainable management. Meanwhile, introduced species are having wide-ranging effects, positive and negative, on freshwater fisheries and the ecosystems that support them. My post-doctoral research aimed to develop.

In my multi-disciplinary research I reached across national boundaries to incorporate ecology, genetics and socio-economics to explore the impact of freshwater fish invasions on the sustainability of subsistence fisheries. I lived and worked in Kapapa, a rural African farming village on the edge of the Lukangaba protected forest, working with locals to teach sustainable farming and forestry practices. My goal was to increase livelihoods by increasing the productivity of farmlands, demonstrating sustainable forestry practice, and introducing alternative income generating.
