After a Management Studies degree at Cambridge my professional life started trading bonds and options at Goldman Sachs. By the time I was 30 I’d lived in London, Tokyo and New York and was up for Managing Director. Externally I was doing pretty well, but internally something wasn't quite right. I left banking while I could and went travelling to China and Southeast Asia. I read a lot and began practicing yoga and meditation into the bargain. Back in London, I started an environmental business helping people make buildings more environmentally friendly. In little more than a year, when I found investors, the business was worth several million pounds. In 2008 the financial crisis hit hard and the investors eventually froze me out of the business I'd created. It was acrimonious and by the end of it I‘d lost the lot....All the while, during my 20s and into my 30s, what appealed to me most - both intellectually and practically - was the issue of happiness. Whatever I was doing I knew that deep down the most important thing in life is to be happy but the question was always, how? Because looking around, the world isn't doing great at it. I studied the subject and wrote a book summarising the main issues. I then created a course to share with people what I’ve picked up. It’s been going a few years and the results have been fantastic.I work with people from all walks of life, and running days with groups including theatre collectives, coaching businesses and other organisations. In 2013 I created a well-being Day Event involving experts such Oliver James, Susan Quilliam and Ben Hunt-Davis OBE. My belief is that by understanding this new science and deploying simple tools with regular practice anyone can build resilience and improve the well-being of their life.
