Club And Facility Manager (Qld & Nt)

Sport And Business Development Manager
Ice Skating Queensland (ISQ) is the peak governing body of the sport of ice figure skating in Queenslandand owns and operates two major ice rink facilities in Brisbane (Boondall and Acacia Ridge) providingfor public sessions, figure skating, hockey, speed skating and curling. In in the role, I was responsible for:- Development and execution of the strategic marketing and promotional plans- Increasing community participation, growth of ice skating as a sport inQueensland and identifying/driving commercial opportunities and commercial outcomes toenable sporting pathways from grass roots through to elite athletes.- Working with a variety of stakeholders to ensure alignment and support the successfulachievement of key objectives including rink staff, Ice Skating Queensland board, ice sportsclub and association personnel, public and the skate school director.- Responsible for promotional budget, financial management of growth initiatives and ensuringreturn on investment.- Managing and optimizing social media and communication channels using customer data.- Implementation of recruitment process for session managers and casual staff, overseeing operations and providing guidance, support, leadership of a team of session managers in order to cultivate effective operational practices and desired customer service standards required for both ice rinks- The development of a new online booking system to increase efficiencies in attending the rinkand minimize physical contact to improve customer satisfaction while being able to capture customer data to and more effectively manage public session attendance and rink capacity..

In late June I accepted the position of general manager of the Royal Oak Bowls Club. This is a new bowling club (an amalgamation of the previous clubs of Onehunga and Hillsboro) and is the second largest bowling club in Auckland (over 300 members). My role incorporates the administration and management of the entire facility including (but not limited) to the following:• Management of a variety of staff (green keeper, bowls coordinator, functions and bar manager, casual staff)• Financial management of club including accounts, grants, budgets, supplementary income and investment management• In accordance/guidance with the executive committee, the implementation of the club’s strategic/business plan and monitoring the performance of the club in all areas• Strengthening the participation and usage of the Club’s greens, events and hiring of the facilities by corporate and outside groups• Implementing club maintenance and development projects
Project Manager - North Golf
I received a short-term contract by my previous employer North Harbour Golf as well as the Golf Northland Association. The purpose of this contract was to complete thedocumentation to progress the formation of the “North Golf” association, an amalgamation of the operational aspects of both districts. My responsibilities are as follows:- Analysis of total incomes and expected expenses to form combined financial budgets- Identify potential operational synergies between districts- Develop position descriptions of employees of North Golf- Develop a clear structure of North Golf - Develop a North Golf constitution and proposed changes to current NH Golf / GN constitutionsOn the 4th of June 2018 the proposal and motions required by the membership to proceed with the creation of the North Golf Association and the cessation of North Harbour / Northland Golf were passed at respective special general meetings.
Executive Officer
As Executive Officer of the North Harbour Golf I was charged with running the day to day operations of the association. The association serves 16 golf clubs and over 10,000 members in the district. Main responsibilities include:- Small business management and administration. I was responsible for all the day to day operations of the association including the management of staff, reporting on the financials, obtaining and generating income streams and working in conjunction with a board of directors to implement initiatives in the best interests of the sport.- Events management and promotion. Responsible for the running of major amateur golf tournaments in the North Harbour district and the promotion of the game (beginners through to seniors) by way of numerous initiatives. - Strategic and Operational aspects of the golfing industry including working alongside key people in the industry to create and deliver initiatives at national and district level for the promotion of the game at all levels (beginner to elite).Major achievements in the role- Nominated in 2011 for the North Harbour Sports Administration Award for high achievement and success in the leadership of a sporting governing body. Was shortlisted to the final 3 for the finals.- Responsible for securing, implementing and managing the associations first major sponsor (apparel and golf equipment company) in 2010 (Recently renewed to 2018)- Set the goal in 2009 by the board of increasing financial reserves by 50%. To date the reserves have grown by 150%. - Responsible for lifting the profile of some of the major tournaments in the district and nationwide. Successes include the North Harbour men's Stroke Play Championship, one a struggling even but now one of the most lucrative and well attended events on the national calendar. Also responsible alongside key staff for the creation of the Lydia Ko Age Group Championship
Pj Boatwright Scholarship
In 1991, the United States Golf Association established the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Scholarship of which I was fortunate enough to obtain a position after my Australian OE in 2004. This program is designed to give experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration while assisting state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf. Responsibilities included:• Course Setup• Course Marking• Preparation of Material for competitions• Assisting in ensuring the course was set up according to plan• Assisting with monitoring of pace of play and officiating• Assisting in scoring procedures.• Assisting in distribution of results sheet to media • Assistance in Course Ratings• Assistance in support calls for TPP Tournament Software• Website Maintenance and development• Attended a week long seminar at the USGA head office in New Jersey.• Involvement with the “1st Tee” initiative as part of the Shell Houston OpenMy experience with the Texas Golf Association involved significant travel and gave me a very good insight into the organisation and running of large events. Towards the latter part of my employment I was allowed to organise tournaments unsupervised, with the help of recruited volunteers, more specifically the South Regional Mid-Amateur and various qualifiers for the State Amateur and US Open State Qualifiers.
