My development career started in marketing at MRI. I was a software developer who helped companies build websites for sweepstakes and contests. I also built back-end systems that generated random codes for soft drink contests. This job taught me the basics of building good software that adhered to industry standards as well as more mundane development tasks such as how to safely deploy code to production.My next job was at RSNA where I built web applications to be used by professionals in the field of Radiology. I was eventually promoted to be a team lead where I had ~3-4 developers reporting to me at a time. Our team was tasked with building and maintaining applications revolving around creating and reviewing educational radiology content. This job taught me a lot about how to work well within and without a development team. I also learned how to function as an engineer at a company that isn't necessarily a software company. I had to learn how to explain complicated engineering solutions to people who aren't as technically minded.My current job is at Yum! Brands where I am helping them build their entire eCommerce platform for all of their restaurant brands: KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. This job is teaching me what it really means to build enterprise-grade software that is both reliable and fast. My previous jobs were lax about proper software logging standards, but I've learned how building software the prints useful logs can lead to more maintainable and transparent software. It can give other team members from across the organization a glimpse into how your software functions and let them fix some issues on their own.
