Over two years I worked with the Gender & Pastoralism Action Research Project, which was funded by IDRC, Oxfam GB and USAID, to understand the roles and responsibilities of pastoralist women and to advocate for more inclusive development planning within the Pastoral Livelihood Initiative.I worked on compiling existing research, undertaking new studies and then co-editing the results into two small books. Following this I was commissioned by Minority Rights Group International to conduct research in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and to publish a report, which was launched at the UN Forum on Minority Issues held in Geneva.

I worked for LWT for a year following graduation in a varied administrative role that was great for building all the basic workplace skills required for a career in the third sector. This involved supporting the CEO, the conservation team, fundraising department, PR officer and education staff to deliver the organisation's mandate. I had the opportunity to work with the Trust's volunteers and to see how crucial they are to the work of any small non-profit, while the most informative aspect was seeing the skills needed for fundraising and communications.
