Serving on the President’s Executive Cabinet, I oversaw admissions, recruitment, and enrollment marketing strategy for our Traditional, Adult, and Online programs, managed personnel in those areas, and developed business with a constellation of vendors and strategic partners.

A new position for the University, which provided strategic leadership across Business Development, External Affairs, and Enrollment as a means of identifying new market-facing opportunities for collaboration, innovation, partnership, and growth.

While in this role, I led an outstanding team who produced excellent results, far exceeding market trends:—Consistent 5+% annual growth in new student enrollments (21% growth overall).—Three of the largest Freshman classes in school history, with a record-tying Freshman class in Fall 2018.—A higher academic profile, and an expanded Honors program.—An increasingly diverse student body as measured by racial and ethnic identity, socioeconomic status, and geographic residence.In addition to leading the recruitment team, I invested a large portion of my time creating new initiatives, managing cross-functional projects, and developing beneficial partnerships. A few examples:—Leading an inter-institutional project team of faculty, staff, external partners, and outside consultants to optimize our Transfer Marketing & Recruitment strategies.—Creating and launching an "Early Action" admissions plan.—Developing and managing an institution-wide communication plan for incoming students.—Working closely with campus leadership to articulate and build alignment around recruitment goals and initiatives.—Improving predictive models, conversion rates, and final outcomes with recruitment partners.—Planning and hosting the 2016 and 2017 Asian-American Youth Leadership Conference, and Portland's 2017 National Hispanic College Fair.—Planning and executing new academic program launches in Global Studies, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, and Homeland Security.Firms I've worked with recently: EAB, Ruffalo Noel Levitz, Scannell & Kurz, Hardwick Day, Student Paths, Carnegie Dartlett, HotChalk, Collegeboard, Eduventures, Orbis, and a variety of local non-profits and educational partners.A few of the teams I've served on recently:--Brand Committee.--External Affairs Strategic Planning Group.--Business Development Strategic Team.--The Presidential Task Force on Retention.--New Program Development Team.--Student Persistence Team.--Campus Management Team.

This 12-month fellowship brought together a small set of higher ed leaders from around the country to work closely with pathfinders in the private sector, sharing ideas and cultivating practices to drive new innovations in higher education. Our collaborators and mentors were drawn from established organizations like Apple, Facebook, Khan Academy, Berkeley, Stanford, The Long Now Foundation, the University Innovation Alliance, and WeWork, as well as a thoughtfully curated set of consultants, technologists, startup founders, non-profit leaders, and (for good measure) an entrepreneurial brewery or two.Topically, we studied emerging models of product, program, service, and innovation design across several industries, surfacing key insights and adapting them experimentally through iterative projects within our home institutions. It was a year of fascinating and compelling work.
