At first, I wanted to be a teacher, then a history professor, then a cybersecurity expert, but finally, I realized I loved coding.All of these options were things I was interested in, but studying them never got me excited. I was bored and lost. So, in 2017, after graduating from SUNY Orange with an associate's degree in Cyber Security, I packed my car full of my stuff and moved across the country from a small town in upstate New York to Denver, Colorado. It was the beginning of something new and exciting in my life. I got a job working in a call center for tech supporting CCTV systems. Again, I was not passionate about the job, but something at that company did interest me. In the back of the office were a bunch of people developing the technology going into these systems, and that got me asking 'how do they do that?', 'What does their job entail?', 'Could I do something like that?'. I didn't know where to start, so I started googling around how I could get into programming without going back to school again. I found a weekly meetup that taught HTML and CSS for free that I attended and enjoyed, so I dug further. I found out that Denver was home to many coding boot camps. I spent time researching which one was best for me and landed on Skill Distillery, a 16-week full-stack boot-camp focusing on Java and Angular. I quit my job as tech support and dove into the pre-work required of the boot-camp. I was hooked.After graduating from the boot camp, I have been doing full-stack development. I have picked up multiple new technologies, gotten more proficient at the ones I already knew, and was promoted to a mid-level developer position at my first job within the first year and a half in the industry.It may have taken time to find my passion in life, but now that I have, I couldn't be happier with it.My specialties include quickly learning new skills and programming languages, problem-solving, and conveying complex technical information clearly and understandably to various professional and lay audiences due to teaching history. So far, I have JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Python, Angular, AngularJS, Java, HTML, CSS, Git, and SQL in my wheelhouse. I am currently learning Node.JS, GraphQL, and Docker and am looking to learn any other Javascript libraries or frameworks, AI, and get my feet wet with mobile development.
