Tasked as a surveillance operator and trainer I work within a specialist team, employing a range of tactics and techniques to secure intelligence and gather evidence. With specific focus on serious crime committed by organised crime groups, this work requires high levels of commitment, often working demanding hours and managing exceptionally pressured requirements and adverse conditions. As a College of Policing trainer, I am responsible for the continuous training and development of surveillance team officers, researching and delivering the most up to date and innovative practices, whilst ensuring the continuous provision of the highest levels of service delivery.

Criminal Investigation Department / Serious Crime And Drugs Group

Within this role I managed dual responsibilities, I was tasked to manage investigations, from initial planning and strategy setting, pursuing lines of enquiry, analytical work, completion of case papers through to presenting evidence at Court. I oversaw a significant caseload ensuring effective prioritisation of deadlines and objectives. I managed a wide range of cases from fraud and acquisitive offences through to violent crime and drug conspiracy and trafficking offences, delivering the very highest standards of evidence to support subsequent convictions. In addition, I was tasked to manage investigations into organised crime group activity. As a surveillance operative, I drove operations, managing a team as an operational commander with responsibility for immediate, fast time, operational decisions continuous dynamic risk assessment. I led on the identification of targets and submission of detailed intelligence packages for operational use; conducting often detailed briefings to internal and external partners and agencies.I consistently delivered awareness and implementation of innovative covert techniques to secure the most effective gathering of evidence and intelligence and operation of technical equipment. This was an exceptionally challenging role with the need to manage continuously evolving technology and manage demanding legal requirements and complex paperwork within this sensitive area of investigation. During this time, I served on attachment to the Force Intelligence Bureau as Chemist Inspection and Chemical Liaison officer. I reported directly to the divisional commander, liaising with the medical and chemical industry with Essex to investigate illegal requests for controlled chemicals. My role included ensuring accurate record keeping and, as necessary, the investigation of any irregularities around the behaviour of doctors, pharmacists or medical staff.

Like all police officers, I began my service as a constable. I worked my way steadily through a range of roles and training affording me a strong foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction. I undertook a broad series of operational roles, including working as part of a response team. I was tasked with the immediate management of critical incidents and a wide range of operational activities. This required a thoughtful and considered approach, often under pressure of time and tight budgetary constraints. I consistently demonstrated an ability to manage a diversity of issues, to influence widely and to process information quickly and accurately. I established and maintained strong relationships with internal and external partners, ensuring the most positive outcomes for community members.

I undertook a range of demanding and testing training and development; thriving in even the most adverse and challenging of environments. I was tasked with a wide range of military duties and was subsequently selected to join the Reconnaissance Platoon. I served as a section commander in a close observation unit, using covert methods to obtain intelligence with responsibility the discipline, training, deployment and administration of my section. I left the military with an exemplary conduct record.
