To manage a Regional Convenience Store business of 130+ stores with an aggressive acquisition programme. Originally a subsidiary of Palmer & Harvey, the business required a clear strategy and supporting infrastructure to build upon its solid foundations. Events at P & H led to the business being put up for sale, so focus changed to setting up a for a sale process and subsequent integration with new owner- Conviviality

Supported a number of key strategic projects in Convenience Retail across a number of markets across Europe and South Africa focused on offer and commercial enhancements.

Whilst creating a Retail culture in an Oil company, determining and overseeing Category Management, Buying, Supply Chain strategies for seven European markets with over 2000 stores producing a combined turnover of in excess of 2.5 billion euros. Having managed a direct team of 9 people supporting the markets, structure is moving towards a more centralised approach to optimise capability and consistency on offer creation and all supporting activities. In addition I have Global responsibilities for driving strategic retail partnerships to include their selection, offer deevlopment and commercial agreements, so has extended my role into markets such as China, South Africa, Turkey, Australia and USA

Led a team of 30 responsible for all aspects of Trading, Category Management and Supply Chain including the ongoing development of Wild Bean Coffee for COCO and COFO business with a turnover of circa £600m. Two tier approach, firstly a profit improvement plan due to under-performance to plan and against external benchmarks, achieved through empowering and re-focusing a team enhanced through combining existing team with new recruits, and creating a long term strategy through a differentiated consumer offer through the venture with Marks & Spencer which combined with BP's strengths in core forecourt strategies created a unique and market leading proposition

Promoted to Executive Board, managed a team of 23 people responsible for all aspects of Buying and Category management for 600 stores, owned and franchised. Responsible for creating and delivering a Profit Improvement program for submission to Funding banks, leading to subsequent sale to Co-Operative Group and the integration thereafter.

Successfully getting alignment and Buy in from team and other functions, exceeded plans in a business with a turnover in excess of £500m.

Joining J Sainsbury Trainee Store Management program after college studies, worked in various departments at Trainee, Assistant and Department Manager, Progressed to Night Shift Manager and was in Deputy Store Manager in training when I left. Worked in four stores which included new store opening.
