Hey, I'm Andy Graham, the founder of The HMO Community and online training programme, The HMO Roadmap. I've been investing in HMO properties for over a decade, and my story began in 2009! I left university as a qualified physio, but quickly discovered it wasn't the job for me! I worked hard and saved up as much money as possible, and as soon as I could afford to, I purchased and refurbished my first property (prices were a lot cheaper back then) which I converted into a five-bed student house. Of course, it wasn't long before I 'got the bug', and through my mid to late twenties, I did the same thing again and again until I eventually built a portfolio of HMO properties.When I was first starting, it was difficult to find the support I needed, and I found that building a HMO property business could be very challenging at times, but despite these challenges, I have remained committed to improving the standards of accommodation for young people in the UK.I successfully exited my investment and management agency I founded in 2016, specialising in the acquisition, refurbishment, and management of HMOs for private landlords and investors. The journey involved managing thousands of tenants, expanding operations across several cities, and building an exceptional team that was committed to being the best we could. I exited the business for a substantial multi-six-figure sum. This achievement not only marks a significant milestone in my career, but I think it also places me among a small number of entrepreneurs who have been able to successfully exit a business.I write as a regular columnist in different magazines about a variety of HMO topics, I co-founded The HMO Mastermind and I'm the host of The HMO Podcast! That's why in 2020, I decided it was time to collate all my knowledge and experience and build a one-stop-shop for the HMO community!In 2021 I ventured into commercial development and co-founded Arcvelop Investor Group with my two partners Mike and Marc. AIG was created to develop neglected characterful properties into new commercial and residential mixed use schemes. We now have a development pipeline of 30 units across prominent locations including London and Kent, Norwich and Sheffield.
