Responsibilities for policy and service development implementation: The post has a key role in developing and implementing local policies and procedures to meet national strategies. Planning Role: Develop detailed and costed corporate waiting times plans to ensure the achievement of targets and guarantees are met. This will involve the presentation of detailed plans to Forth Valley NHS Board and Scottish Government for approval. • Assess the demand and capacity of inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic and cancer services to deliver waiting times targets, whilst taking into account non-elective demands of the service.Implementing Plans: • Develop and implement an approved broad range of complex activities within waiting times plans covering, inpatients, daycases, outpatients, diagnostics, cancer services and the unavailable list. Responsibilities for client care: Receive and manage complaints taking account of any delicate and personal issues involved and take actions when necessary in accordance with the organisational HR policies. Where there is a deficit in service take action to bridge any gaps and improve the serviceInformation Role :Review complex information to assess trends, deviations from plans and adjust plans according to requirements. Financial Role: Assist the General manager by taking an integral role in the management of the waiting times budget for external providers and develop and take forward business cases for waiting times funding, making decisions on how the organisation achieves best value for money within current and future waiting times agenda. .

This is a 10 bedded unit caring for people with acute, chronic & end-stage. renal failure. which I managed. I had 24 hour responsibility with a Budget of £900,000. My responsibilities and achievements were:• The provision of renal replacement therapy service to the Transplant, Intensive care and High Dependency units of the hospital. • Successfully reviewed and redressed the staff skill mix • The implementation of monthly meetings, records of minutes to allow constructive contribution to the provision of care. • Implemented the named nurse system. • Implemented objective setting and appraisal system.• Established a procurement top-up system for expensive consumables.• I put together an operational policy for the unit.• Compiled protocols to ensure compliance and continuity of practice.• Designed and implemented a computer programme to assist in the unification of prescribing renal replacement therapy between all users of the service. This also facilitates auditing of activity.• Assisted other units to become self sufficient in the practice of renal replacement therapy.

• I was responsible to the charge nurse for ensuring high standards of nursing care for people with acute renal failure. • Rostering the staff as efficiently as possible, ensuring a good skill mix. • Maintain a safe environment for the patients and staff by ensuring unit protocols and health and safety laws were adhered to.• Acted as a mentor to students studying for Pre and Post registration courses.• I gave a lecture to 60 people in the surgical lecture theatre on Acute Renal Failure

I was an E grade staff nurse in a 6 bedded Renal transplant, Acute renal and general nephrology ward• This unit had a 9 station satellite haemodialysis unit to which we rotated. • Performed all types of renal replacement therapy• Advance my knowledge and skills about Chronic and Endstage renal failure.• A member of a hospital committee for implementing the named nurse concept.• Responsible for reviewing the nursing practice and documentation in this unit.• I presented lectures to the Professional Studies Diploma part 2 students and acted as a facilitator for these students.

I was accountable for the management of a 10 station haemodialysis unit, which was staffed by 25 personnel. The staff were multicultural, hence communication was of paramount. importanceIn this post we did not have junior doctors hence the Head Nurse’s responsibility expanded into the medical province..Implemented meetingsEstablished Communication was achieved by the nursing team discussing patient care at each dialysis session. This was a good tool for staff to appreciate the problems associated with chronic renal failure and learn how to care for their patients.The wider aspect of ward management were communicated by the implementation of monthly ward meetings. Staff were free to put forward constructive suggestions on how to improve patient care. And staff working conditions. Minutes were available.Each nurse was responsible for a group of patients using an individualised approach to nursing care using Orem’s model.I implemented a teaching programme for the commission of 10 new dialysis machines.I was a member of the Transplant committee, my role was to carry out the investigations, education and documentation for the patients.

I took charge of a ward that cares for medically ill patients. I was ultimately responsible for delivering high standards of care.
