I kind of grew up at BT. I joined as a 21 year old graduate who didn't have a clue what he was doing, and 14 years later I left as an HR Leader who had done many exciting roles - mostly in HR, working with a variety of teams that spanned Digital, Sales, Television, and Commercial to name but a few. I also had some time as a Product Manager - to be honest, I wasn't brilliant at that, but it taught me so much about the commercial side and how different parts of the organisation work together… Show more I kind of grew up at BT. I also had some time as a Product Manager - to be honest, I wasn't brilliant at that, but it taught me so much about the commercial side and how different parts of the organisation work together, and this still stands me in good stead today. I'd advise anyone early in their HR career to do similar, if they can. It was a bit of a wrench to leave BT, but it was time to spread my wings. The company was brilliant to me both professionally and personally, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to further their career. My last role at BT was Head of HR for Consumer Commercial, Marketing, Digital (CMD) and Brand. I was business partner to the Managing Director of CMD, and the BT Chief Brand Officer. Here, I was the Senior HR lead for our Consumer Sales contact centres. I was business partner to the Consumer Sales Director and her team, and between us we lead an organisation of c. 4,000 people across the UK. Being in one of our centres the night we launched BT Sport was a particular highlight.

In this role, I was Senior HR Business Partner for the Consumer Television, Commercial and Online teams in BT Retail. "The best HR job in BT", as I kept telling people. I got to work with our growing BT TV and Online teams, and also our commercial teams, who were responsible for delivering the billions in revenue and profit that helped us grow the new parts of the business.
