As the engineering leader for Motioneering's mechanical design team, I collaborate with clients, suppliers and colleagues to deliver compact, cost-effective tuned mass dampers that combine performance with safety and reliability. These tuned mass dampers, which can range in size from a few kilograms to 1000+ tonnes, are used to minimize structural motions induced by inputs such as wind or pedestrians. While I am heavily involved in all stages of the projects, I particularly excel at developing novel design solutions that help keep us ahead of competitors.

In addition to my engineering role I am also the overall Motioneering Team Leader. My responsibilities include:- Plan and assign work, including everyday direction and completion of projects. - Act as a role model that embodies Motioneering's mission and values. - Promote a safe and inclusive working environment.- Mentor and work with team members on development, training and growth.- Host monthly 1-on-1s with the team, collecting feedback and complete year-end reviews. - Prepare annual team budget including training, conference planning, software and equipment purchases, etc.- Collaborate with the VP and others on research and development, team performance and strategic planning- Review timesheets and expenses.

While still under the RWDI Group of Companies, Motioneering has been relaunched as a separate entity.

As a Technical Director for RWDI, my primary responsibilities include the development, design and implementation of supplemental damping systems for bridges and skyscrapers. These systems minimize wind or pedestrian-induced motions. My other responsibilities encompass:• Coordinating and supervising design and analysis work with the design team.• Consulting with clients, performing fabrication supervision, on-site coordination, inspection and commissioning. This work has provided my with extensive experience in the full range of mechanical design tasks from concept to detailed work including 3D modeling using SolidWorks, motion analysis, FEA, strength of materials and drawing generation. Some of the signature projects that I have had a significant hand in include Taipei 101, Grand Canyon Skywalk, 432 Park Avenue NY, Central Park Tower NY, Shanghai Tower and the Chicago Spire (including an interview on the Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet and the Smithsonian Channel’s How did They Build That?).

• Invention, design and development of flying toys and radio controlled vehicles.• Pilot/driver for TV commercials and internal marketing videos.

• Part-time participation in the team responsible for the development of the proposed SMART Lander Mars exploration mission sponsored by the Canadian Space Agency. Participated in preliminary brainstorming and design studies.

• Coordinated the NASA Canadarm Program Material Review Board (MRB) for the timely resolution of non-conformances. The non-conformances ranged in scope from manufacturing to on-orbit problems.• Organized MRBs with the appropriate internal and external personnel to ensure technical issues were properly resolved and all parties agreed with the dispositions generated.• Prepared Failure Analysis Reports for NASA summarizing any significant faults, possible causes, and path to resolution.

• Participated in the design process with program personnel, NASA and subcontractors ensuring that the products met reliability standards. • Assessed the impact of non-conformances from a reliability perspective.• Reviewed drawings and documents ensuring that satisfactory reliability was incorporated. • Performed Safety and Hazard Analyses to systematically analyze and identify conditions that might have created or propagated hazards to personnel or hardware.• Prepared certification reports for products delivered to NASA.

Ground Test Loads ExpertI developed the loading scenarios to statically simulate 23 different flight and landing cases using up to 86 hydraulic actuators pulling on a full scale Dash 8 Series 400 airframe. The tests were used to demonstrate that the aircraft was structurally sound for certification by Transport Canada, the FAA and the European JAR. My primary responsibilities included:• Developing a program that generated loading to achieve shear and moments equivalent to supplied aerodynamic and inertial load data provided by the stress department.• Conducting limit and ultimate tests on the test aircraft ensuring that applied loads continued to match required loads and that the aircraft was not overstressed.• Performing inspections on static and fatigue test aircraft and components.• Preparing reports for Transport Canada.Design EngineerIn this position, I designed, coordinated the fabrication of and structurally tested components and detailed parts for the Dash 8 Series 400 and the Global Express. Specifically I:• Developed test structures that attach to the aircraft structure using CATIA.• Using production drawings, developed equivalent detail components for static testing.• Acted as a liaison between engineering and shop personnel to ensured that manufacturing and assembly of specimens and rigs proceeded smoothly.
