My work touches many different areas within our system and Southwest Michigan Quality, Safety and Experience (QSE) offices. At the system level, I report to the QSE strategy manager and work on issues related to strategy. In Southwest Michigan, I support the regional QSE VP with communications (newsletters, news posts, intranet design/maintenance, weekly quality updates, PowerPoint presentations, digital signage), regulatory reporting, annual hospital surveys and other projects that need completing, like our yearly QSE Performance Report.

• Curate, edit and budget content for all of paper’s weekly feature pages• Build audience and engagement through daily posts to paper’s Facebook (12,000+ followers), Twitter (3,500 followers) and LinkedIn (300 followers) accounts• Generate weekly social media engagement reports for newsroom staff• Manage content placement and design on paper’s website (5.3 million annual page views) using CMS• Customize and distribute daily email newsletter (10,000 subscribers)• Assist advertising department in promoting Second Street-run contests and giveaways online• Design news pages using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop• Report and write feature-length news stories, and a weekly opinion column• Shoot photos for use in print and online with Canon DSLR• Coordinate news coverage with editors at sister newspapers within our news group• Assist with reporting, design and editing of special newsprint and magazine sections

• I pick, clean, photograph, list, promote, sell and package vintage items I find on my family’s Centennial Farm in Southwest Michigan• For about a year, I also sold items from a booth at M43 Antiques in Bangor, Mich.

This was my personal blog where I detailed the life of my children, my hobbies and my life, mostly through pictures, but also through tongue-in-cheek commentary and dad jokes. In 2020, to celebrate my 10-year anniversary, I made 366 posts, one for each day of the year. And then I retired from blogging.

I reported crime- and court-related stories for the university newspaper – the largest student-run daily newspapers in the country, and fourth largest newspaper in Minnesota. My weekly duties included a police blotter – highlighting reports from the Minneapolis and university police departments. My other stories were a mixture of hard news and features.
