London Ambulance Service (LAS) was placed in special measures in 2015 following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in May 2015. The launch of DatixWeb was a major part of the LAS Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) that was produced in response to the CQC inspection.•Gathered best practice from other ambulance services that were successfully using DatixWeb to ensure that this was embedded in the design and build of the LAS system.•Worked with key stakeholders across LAS to ensure that the new system met their needs. This was particularly important as there had been previous attempts to implement DatixWeb at LAS where these stakeholders were not engaged and had been resistant to the implementation.• Conducted training needs assessments, developed training plans and training packages and delivered training to ensure that user users across the trust had the skills to use the system.• Successfully launched the new build of DatixWeb in May 2016, ensuring that the trust met their QIP objective of launching online incident reporting in Quarter 1 of 2016-17.• Identified the need for alternative ways for ambulance crews to report incidents when they do not have access to computers. Scoped the provision of an incident reporting telephone service, worked with other parts of the organisation and successfully launched the service in June 2016. This meant that another of the trust’s QIP objectives had been met.• Worked with the trust’s safeguarding team to develop a safeguarding referral system in DatixWeb that replaced the trust’s paper based system, saving the safeguarding referral team time by streamlining the referral process.• Set up systems within DatixWeb to manage the trust’s Serious Incident (SI) process, enabling the SI tracking process to always remain current and accurate without the need for additional tracking systems.
